Halloween is my favorite holiday. So much so, that I enjoy dedicating the entire month of October to all things horror. Thus I call it, Spooptoberfest: a month-long celebration of all things demonic, paranormal, gory, and scary. Last year I shared 31 horror movies and wrote a lite sentence or two on why I highly recommended them. This year, I wanted to slow down, step back, and share only 5 (different) movies that hold a special place in my heart and go a little more in-depth as to why. Let’s get spoopy.

Why It’s Recommended:
Call me “fucked up in the head”, but the SAW series is my all-time favorite horror film franchise. I marathon all 7 (now 8 this year) movies every Halloween season. I love the overall story, the insanity, and the creativity of every trap and every “game”.
SAW II takes the first movie to a much bigger scale. More traps, more players, and more blood. The film is the first to open with what I call the “Opening Trap”. It’s just a quick game to get us back into the SAW universe. The one in this film does a great job at getting under your skin (literally), and will get you at the edge of your seat as you also cringe at the job the victim is tasked with. All 8 victims must traverse an entire mansion in a race against time to survive traps while Detective Eric Matthews must have a therapy session while also helplessly watching his own son fight for his life.
We all have a fucked-up side that wants to see the suffering, the gore, and hear the screams; and by watching SAW… you may just catch yourself cheering “Just do it! Don’t be a bitch!” during every exhilarating trap scene.
This is the one that has the legendary “Quite Possibly the Dumbest Victim in Horror Movie History”.
